Virtual Advent Calendar Day 13: Gilded Macaroni Kleenex Box Cover

12 Days Left Until Christmas!
A gilded macaroni snowflake on festive red classes up your plain old Kleenex box.
I want to start by saying that somewhere in my crafateria, I have the most awesome 1950s "macaroni art" booklet ever. Period.  But I can't find it.  It's in there somewhere and truly, it would astound you.  Alas, you'll have to just take my word for it.

What says elegance more than a golden macaroni snowflake?  You're right if you said, "Nothing!"  This will certainly class up any toilet tank or vanity.

Materials Needed:
  • Wood Kleenex box cover (or buy a used one at a thrift store)
  • Red glossy paint
  • Gold metallic spray paint
  • Card board (mine was from a box of waffles)
  • Several varieties of pasta noodles
Instructions:

Step 1:  Paint your box.  I used red glossy spray paint, but you can use any type of paint you want.

Step 2:  Cut out a snowflake shape from your cardboard.

Step 3:  Lay out your macaroni design on your cardboard snowflake.  Once you are happy with it, start gluing the macaroni to the cardboard.
Finished gluing.  I wanted something for the center so I used lentils.
Step 4:  Spray paint your snowflakes.
Spray painted gold snowflake.
Step 5:  Once your snowflakes are dry, glue them to the sides of your box.  I also added a little detail on the top.
Detail on the top of the box.
You will now look much more elegant when blowing your nose!

Cost:  The box will cost you about $5, less if you get a used one at Goodwill.  The macaroni Will cost you $1-2 per bag, but you will have 95% of it left over.  (Check out our To Die For Mac & Cheese Recipe if you need an idea for using the leftovers.)
Time to Complete:  Not including drying times, about 2 hours.
Skill Level:  This would be a great one for the kids, if you use regular glue, instead of your hot glue gun.

Another one under the belt.  Day 14 will be here before you know it.
