Challenge No. 17 (Easter) Submission - Bunny Finger Puppets

The Challenge ... Easter. The Submission ... Bunny Finger Puppets!

Are they not the cutest? Love them! The fact that there are pom poms on them is just an added bonus. I have a serious thing for pom poms, check the evidence.

The bunnies are made with REAL FELT and some bamboo. Let me tell you - this stuff is a DREAM to sew. Dream. It feels good, it is so pretty, the colors are awesome, it's all natural and it does not get all wonky and wacky the way the $.29 / sheet stuff does.

I was feeling really uninspired the other day and complaining to Sarah about how I was stumped, and a tad overwhelmed from Scrapbuster Month (the recap of ALL 31 PROJECTS!! is coming tomorrow; check back for that). I was sitting at the computer with Izzie and we were looking at the Purl Bee together. We were looking at all the pretty pictures, and she starting pointing at these bunnies and saying "i want it ... mama i want it..." and you know what happened from there? I was very excited for this Challenge and immediately started pulling out the supplies to make this.

And about the Purl Bee, I'm just going to go ahead and say this, I think the Purl Bee is my favorite "blog / craft website" ... I mean really - these girls have fresh new content all the time, their color combos are incredible, and they have patterns for all sorts of crafts (knitting, sewing, embroidery, quilting, and such). I first found them when Joelle Hoverson released her book Last Minute Knitted Gifts -- I snatched that right up and have probably made half the stuff in the book; love it. Oh, and when I was in NY once, I made a point to go to Soho and check out the store (adorable). Now that I've expanded beyond knitting, I cannot wait to go back to NYC and re-visit PurlSoho.

Wow, I really diverted.

This is the project info:
Felt & Bamboo Sheets from favorite local fabric store (Scrapbooks, Etc)
Embroidery Thread
Yarn for Pom Poms
Takes about 1 hour per puppet

I used 2 strands of embroidery floss for the stitching (including the eye & nose); I just used 1 strand for the whiskers.

Ooh la la ... the real felt and the real bamboo - REMARKABLE step up from the acrylic stuff.

Now's the (annoying?) part where I throw in a bunch of pictures of my kids because I find them adorable and am apparently unable to narrow down the ones used in a post! When Audrey woke up, she immediately saw the bunny on the mantle and right away picked the orange one (I knew she would!). Then she played and played with "him."

yep, she even played peek a boo with him

we discovered that the fireplace doubles as a feltboard. nice.

using "him" as an actual puppet

as soon as she got up (with all her crazy hair), audrey ran to give her the pink bunny ...
I am 99% sure that I am going to make a couple more of these before Easter (I just want to use that beautiful green, coraly red & pale yellow felt I have!). They will be a nice compliment to some other fun Easter things that Sarah & I will be whipping up in the next couple of weeks!

If you made it this far, now GO VOTE! for your favorite Easter craft! :-)

  2. Sky - ha ha! Yes, scrapbuster month was really fun, but a little break is great too. Thank you so much for the compliment - by the way, still loving those shoelaces you made your son :-)
