My Favorite Project in a Long Time

My new kitschy centerpiece.
I cannot tell you how long I have had the idea to turn these doll heads into flowers for use in this cheapo vase.  I've wanted to do it for-EVER.

I thought I would make the flowers out of fabric, but couldn't find a way to do it that I was happy with.  Believe me, I tried several different ways.  I also tried yarn, ribbon and paper.  It wasn't until I saw this post on the Auntie Peaches blog about deconstructing dollar store flowers to make new flowers that knew I had my solution.  Genius, Peaches!
This is my favorite dolly flower.
I found the bag of vintage doll heads at a thrift store about three years ago.  I already had the vase.  It was fate that brought us all together, I'm sure of it.
Vintage wired doll head--a great thrift store find.
This is exactly how I imagined it in my mind's eye.  I'm so pleased!  Who wouldn't be?  It's a kitsch masterpiece perfect for my dining room table!

Chiffon Flowers - Accessories Challenge Submission

I've known for a while what I wanted to do for this challenge ... pretty, soft flowers for my hair (or my daugters), or to clip on clothes like a brooch.

Now, I've made fabric flowers before but always with a woven or knit fabric. Those are cute but a little stiff. Also, before I've never sewn them - most of the flowers (maybe all?) I've made before were made with either my hot glue gun or Fabri-Tac (best stuff ever).

So, my challenge to myself was:

make a pretty flower;
that is soft;
that does not involve glue; and
is made from something other than a wove or knit fabric!

Enter the Chiffon Flower! Woo-hoo, it worked!

a perfect pair these two are

Way back when, Dana Made It posted this skirt (the Can Can). And, I just about died over its cuteness. I mean I loved it! I was all sorts of ready to whip out one of these bad boys; I even bought the recommended Nylon Chiffon online (hmmm, in 8 colors). You know where I'm going with this, right? Somehow or another, the beautiful chiffon arrived and I had already moved on ...and I never made the skirt! {Sidebar, maybe I should make these for Thanksgiving...the girls would love them I bet!?!? After all, I did buy two shades of brown, black and white!}

Challenge No. 18 Submission - Ribbon Flowers

For our 18th Challenge, I present the Ribbon Flower Bouquet! Each flower is made from grosgain ribbon, florist tape & cloth stem wire - easy peasy.

I adore these little vases (or anything on the tiny side, really). A good friend gave them to me a couple of years ago for my b'day and I managed to keep "real" flowers living in them for a while, but eventually they died. Given the fact that the flowers I couldn't keep alive were pathos (which allegedly anyone can grow), I am opting for "fake" flowers that may last a little longer.
