Aprons! Tammis Keefe Project No. 6 ... A Joint Project

It may be that the purpose of our little blog is to have "friendly" competitions against each other - every other week, you know trying to figure out which of us has the best spin on a challenge (examples of past challenges are: valentine's, felt, knitting for little girls, and the like). However, ...

We really like to craft together ... and eat together, and drink wine together. So, here's presenting our joint project: Tammis Keefe Aprons!

A couple of weeks ago, we took a trip to our favorite local fabric store together to pick up some coordinating fabrics for the Tammis Keefe pieces. This particular store has this awesome policy to give you 20% off an entire order during your birthday month. Score! Since I was getting 20% off, I decided to pick up an official pattern for aprons. I choose "Mother & Daughter Aprons" by Cindy Taylor Oates (TMB-172). It was pretty easy for Sarah and I to choose which one we each wanted to make (the pattern has 4 adult patterns and 4 child patterns).

Virtual Advent Calendar Day 20: Retro Baking - Krumkake

5 Days Left Until Christmas!
Krumkake!
Okay, so technically, this is not a craft, but it does remind me of the Christmases of my childhood so I'm going to run with it.  This, for those of you who are not Minnesotans of Norwegian descent, is krumkake.  These delicious cookies are traditional at Christmas time.

About a year ago, I found this Nordic Ware krumkake iron at a thrift store in Tucson.  According to the box, I paid $5 for it.

To Die For Mac & Cheese

I have been remiss about getting this post done. Over a month ago, Sara and I met for a planning session and we made the most incredible Mac & Cheese.

I mean, take a look at this beautiful picture.  This mac & cheese is a work of art in a Pyrex casserole.

Here is Sara making the bechamel sauce in my kitchen.  Yes, guests are put to work at my house.  I need someone to assist me since, as you can see in the photo, the dogs are absolutely worthless on that front.

Planning Night & Sarah's Famous ...

Friday night, Sarah & I got together for some blog planning; this always = a great time! She even knows how to keep my kids happy ... she has taken to bringing them new Thomas the Train things when they will be around. (They LOVE that!) And thank you so much Sarah ...

We (the competitors) also had fun after the little ones were down ... by indulging in Sarah's Famous (yes, I think they are worthy of that title) Mint Chocolate Chip Grasshopper Martinis. If you even remotely like mint chocolate chip, stop what you're doing and write down this recipe. And on your next get together, make these:

  • 2 parts Creme de Cacao

  • 2 parts Creme de Menthe

  • 1 part Vodka

  • Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (Sara's favorite = Breyers's, just nothing like it)

  • Peppermint Patties for extra goodness (garnish)
Mix the booze in a shaker with ice; put a giant scoop of ice cream in a martini glass; pour the cocktail over the top; stick a peppermint pattie on top and drink up! Blog planning is oh so fun with these!

Enjoy!

A New Project!

Sara and I got together today to work on this blog.  We were both so excited we were like kids on Christmas morning.  Very large, very mature looking kids.

We started off, as we often start off, with food. Sara brought blueberry scones and I broke open a jar of homemade, home canned lemon curd.  Of course, we had a good, strong pot of coffee to go along with that.

I'll just tell you about lunch now.  Grilled cheese sandwiches.  I have to say, I make a darn good grilled cheese.  I used sourdough bread from Wildflower Bread Co. and Havarti cheese freshly grated with my trusty Mouli-grater (a kitchen implement I could not live without).  After grating the Havarti and spreading it on the bread, I sprinkled on just a bit of garlic powder and ground cumin.  Grill that up in a little butter (actually, an ample amount of butter) and you have an amazing grilled cheese.  I didn't take a photo.  To show you that would just be torture.

In between the eating.  We made lists and planned, and designed, and posted the heck out of this thing.  Please don't forget to vote for whom you think did the best job on the Names Challenge. Sara's submission is always on the left and mine (Sarah's) is always on the right.  I'll make you a grilled cheese if you vote for me (not that I'm pandering).
