This is Sarah talking to you in blue today. Sara and I were so excited when we got our box of Krylon Dual paint, we decided to have a party with it. A spray painted 4th of July party! So instead of one project, we have several, which all work together to make up our patriotic Independence Day picnic table (yes, it’s indoors, but we live in Arizona where it’s too hot to picnic outdoors in the summer).

First of all, I want to get this out of the way. Krylon sent us this paint to try for free, but after using it, I can wholeheartedly endorse it. I love spray paint and this is easily the best spray paint I have ever used. It covers like a dream, it doesn’t drip too much, and the colors are beautiful. We used it on plastic, metal, ceramic, wood and fabric, and it performed well on all five surfaces. Thumbs up on the Krylon Dual! Sara says ... Absolute ditto! This stuff is amazing! :)
Let’s start the mini-tutorials with my very favorite thing, the red, white and blue ping pong ball garland. I love this thing! I stuck the ping pong balls on the ends of bamboo skewers to spray paint them with the Krylon Dual. I then stuck the skewers in a box to let them dry.
Once dry, I used a long, sharp dollmaker’s needle to string the ping pong balls onto white yarn (you could use string, too). I made a knot on either side of the ping pong ball to keep it in place on the string. Sara loves the garland so much, she convinced Sarah to let her keep one!
This fun and original garland was quick to make and relatively inexpensive after shopping out ping pong balls on the internet.
Next up, the three-tiered cupcake stand. I can hardly take credit for this idea as I’ve seen several different versions of it out there. This baby started life as three plates and three candlesticks bought at the local Goodwill for a total of about $7. Start off with everything nice and clean, all stickers and wax removed. Spray each piece top and bottom with the color of your choice.
Once dry, stack your plates and candlesticks, and glue in place if you want. You’re done. Could it be any easier? And it’s beautiful!
Can you make napkin rings with spray paint? You sure can! I started with a piece of duck cloth (you could use canvas). I sprayed one side and let it dry, then the other.
Once both sides were dry, I cut strips that were 6 x 2 inches. I overlapped the two ends and using a hot glue gun, glued the strip into a loop. For decoration, I then glued on a button. If your button has a shank, I would advise cutting the shank off first.
We also spray painted tin cans to hold utensils, mason jars to use as vases, and the outside of a ketschup and mustard bottle set to match the rest of our party. Lastly, for me, I made my own pinwheels from scrapbook paper and chopsticks which I spray painted red and blue.
Isn't this fun? Sara here ... we really did have a lot of fun testing out the Krylon products. I was skeptical that spray painted soup cans may look cheesy, but they didn't! With a piece of scrap ribbon, they are perfect for a picnic. I think they are a adorable (Sarah).

My favorite contribution to the project was this picture frame. Clearly, I'm on a serious red & white kick these days (beach blanket, skirts). I'll have a detailed, step by step tutorial later this week (UPDATED - tutorial is up!) on exactly how I made this, but the 'star' ingredient was the Krylon spray paint! The blue star was cut from some of Sarah's spray painted duck cloth.
All in all, we love how the our festive Spray Painted Party turned out! No kidding, you can turn plain old items from around your house (think cans, canvas, old plates) into colorful party flair in no time! Thanks Krylon for letting us test the product - we can honestly say we are hooked!
