Baby Gift Part 2

This past weekend was just awesome! I went to visit one of my best friends (in Florida, by the beach!) who is about to have her first baby. I could write a whole post about the fun we had, but this is supposed to be a crafty blog, so I'll show you what I made her instead!

First up, wash cloths. These are about 8" squares of cute fabric (that coordinates with the rest of her gift) backed with terry cloth. They are SO adorable, so soft, and I imagine w/ a friendly sewing machine - so quick to make! (More on my sewing machine issues later ... SHE had to go to the shop this past weekend while I was out of town ... because despite acting up an causing me fits, I couldn't even think of sending her to a repair shop while I was home and could use her; the horror!).

Fabrics? They are from Michael Miller; I'll have to double check on the specs.

As soon as I finished making these washcloths, my oldest daughter promptly requested some of her own! I am starting to feel bad, as this is becoming a recurring situation (me making things for other people and she wants one too). This happened recently on another project that I am holding out on until I get the go ahead from a certain someone to post (I'll just say the project involved some seriously cute dress up accessories!).
To break up all this pink & green goodness, here is a picture of us from this past weekend. I should have put my bowling ball under my shirt to try and match Jessica's beautiful belly! Seriously, that is a beautiful belly!

Another washcloth shot ... ok, I really do need to make some more of these. When I bought the terry cloth, I bought a yard, so I have what seems like a TON left!

The rest of her gift was a nursing cover with a pocket & terry cloth built in wipe / burp cloth thing. To make this nursing cover, I used a combination of this tutorial and this tutorial, with a little of my own adjustments.

Ever since I took the quilting class (which reminds me, I'm clearly having project A.D.D. ... my quilt is 99% done, so maybe I'll get my act together and finish / photograph it this week!) I'm a little into neat corners, so I opted for a mitred corner.

Here's a shot of the nursing cover - my rotary cutter is in there to show the pocket.

I used a zig zag stitch to attach the terry cloth wipe thing to the underside of the nursing cover. Because the cloth square is in a corner, I tucked two sides of the terry cloth into the cover corner (and just stitched them down with the rolled up edges), and zig zagged the other two sides.

Here are the washcloths & nursing cover stacked up ready to be delivered.

Remember when I made these? I made this during our big Scrapbuster Month. The pink & green one coordinates..., ane yes it went to the same baby mama.

Look @ those leftovers! I will make more washcloths - soon! I just hope my sewing machine cooperates!

I LOVE the idea of adding fabric to the back of a washcloth to make it match your theme for a baby shower!! I've been collecting ideas for my "I'm gonna be a grandma someday" box.. and this is going to be ending up in there.. THANKS!!
